SLC man killed in Kane County ATV crash; dog not injured

KANE COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 37-year-old Salt Lake City man has died following an ATV accident in Kane County sometime on Monday night.

David Montoya was confirmed deceased at the scene, Kane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Dispatch received a call from individuals who stated that they had located an ATV accident while they were travelling on the North Fork Road south of Navajo Lake, at approximately 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, the news release said.

There was a man at the site of the accident who appeared to be deceased, officials said. Officers from Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol and Utah State Parks were dispatched to the scene.

“The initial investigation shows Mr. Montoya was driving northbound on the North Fork Road during the night when he failed to negotiate a turn and struck a large rock,” the news release said. “The ATV flipped on its side fatally injuring Mr. Montoya. He also had a dog with him that was not injured.”

Montoya was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office. The case is still under investigation at this time.
