SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 25, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — After nearly 15 years, The Leonardo is closing for good.
The arts/technology/science museum, at 209 E. 500 South, south of the city’s main public library, had been under temporary closure due to issues with the aging building it occupied.
“We are deeply grateful for the support and involvement of our community, which has always been integral to our mission,” says a statement posted on the museum’s website.
“After careful consideration, The Leonardo is closing its doors permanently. This difficult decision follows years-long challenges with the aging building, which is now 61 years old. Critical infrastructure necessary for The Leonardo to operate, including the escalators, elevators, and plumbing, has reached the end of its serviceable life.
“Despite efforts with the City and dedicated vendors, these issues could not be overcome.”
The posted statement said the staff remains “proud of The Leonardo’s legacy and impact on our community. While our physical doors will close, we encourage all who have been inspired by The Leonardo to continue fostering creativity, curiosity, and innovation in Utah and beyond.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who has supported The Leonardo over the years. Thank you for making this journey possible.”
