LOGAN, Utah, Aug. 17, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Logan City police arrested a 44-year-old driver Saturday after he allegedly hit a pedestrian, causing her critical injuries, including head trauma, while in a parking lot.

Chad Hurren Saunders was arrested for investigation of negligently operating a vehicle with serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony.

“The pedestrian was transported via ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital and subsequently flown to a trauma center,” Saunders’ arrest document says. “Medical staff reported the pedestrian was in critical condition and had suffered serious head trauma.”

At the time of the accident, officers “did not conduct field sobriety tests and allowed the driver to leave the scene. Shortly after the driver left, officers contacted the driver by phone and asked him if he would submit to a blood draw.

“I met with Chad at the police station,” says the affidavit, filed by an officer of the Logan City Police Department. “I immediately detected the heavy odor of alcohol on his breath. He spontaneously admitted to drinking heavily last night, and again drinking in the morning.”

Saunders consented to a blood draw. The results are pending, the court document says.

“Chad was advised of his Miranda Rights. He admitted to drinking a fifth of liquor last night. He admitted to having a few more shots this morning when he woke up at about ten or eleven. He stated he believed there was still alcohol in his system. He denied consuming any additional alcohol after the accident.

“He stated after being released from the scene of the accident, his father began driving him home. Chad told me prior to arriving home, officers called and asked him to meet them at the police station. He stated during that time, he was in the presence of his father throughout.”

Saunders’ father confirmed his son had been with him since the time of the accident and had not consumed any alcohol during that time.

“Medical staff advised the pedestrian suffered critical injuries and she is not likely to survive,” the arrest document says.

Saunders was arrested Saturday afternoon and was booked into the Cache County jail.
