SARDINE CANYON, Utah, July 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 26-year-old Logan man died Tuesday when his vehicle crashed and rolled in Sardine Canyon.

Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release that calls came in at 5:56 p.m., reporting a single-vehicle crash southbound on State Route 91 near milepost 8.

A 2003 Mercury Sable driven by Broc M. Riley was traveling at high speed when it swerved between other vehicles and hit the center concrete divider, the news release said.

The car then went back across both southbound lanes and off the shoulder, over a large ditch and into the mountainside.

Riley was the only person in the vehicle. He was wearing a seat belt but was partially ejected and died on impact.

According to the news release, troopers found evidence at the scene indicating that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash in addition to the high rate of speed.

The right lane of traffic was closed for about two and a half hours while the crash was investigated. No other vehicles were involved.
