FLAMING GORGE, Utah, May 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 25-year-old man is facing a homicide charge in connection with a fatal boating accident at Flaming Gorge.
A probable cause statement from the Eighth District Court said Corey Dale Eggleston is facing the charge of ‘automobile’ homicide; causing death with an alcohol content of more than .05, a third-degree felony; and DUI with blood alcohol content at or over .05, a class B misdemeanor.
Eggleston was arrested Saturday and transported to Uintah County Jail, where his bail is set at $26,460.
Officials responded to the drowning Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m., the probable cause statement said.
When officers arrived on scene, “a boat was pulling into the boat ramp with one deceased male that had drowned from falling from a boat that was making a turn,” the statement said.
Eggleston had already been dropped off at Cedar Springs Marina and was inside waiting for medical treatment, the statement said. After Eggleston was cleared by medical, the officer asked what had taken place. He wrote in the probable cause statement he could smell alcohol coming from Eggleston.
“Corey admitted to drinking on the boat and stated he was driving the boat and making a left turn when the boat took on water and all three occupants fell into the water,” the statement said.
There were a total of three occupants on the boat including Eggleston, officials said.
Several minutes later another boat was entering Cedar Springs Marina with the third man aboard that had been on the boat driven by Eggleston. The third man was treated by medical and cleared.
The arresting officer asked the third man that had been on board the boat driven by Eggleston what had happened and “he stated that Corey was driving the boat and making a left turn when the boat took on water and all three fell into the water with no life vests on.”
Eggleston was then taken to Uintah County Jail for an intoxilyzer; a breath alcohol tester, and subsequently booked into jail.
