SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – November 16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Holladay man was arrested after admitting he was high on meth when his infant daughter pulled a space heater on top of her face earlier this month.

According to the probable-cause statement, police were called to Primary Children’s Hospital after the 4-month-old girl was brought into the emergency room with multiple injuries and burns to her face, stomach, legs, back and arms.

During an interview with police, the girl’s mother said the infant’s father, Elijah Malyke Jodejuan, 24, had been with the girl and would not let her see her baby for a couple of days. She told police once she saw the baby was injured, Jodejuan would not let her seek medical attention so she waited for him to fall asleep before leaving to bring the baby to the emergency room.

Police say Jodejuan admitted he was coming down from meth and was in the shower when the baby pulled the heater onto her face. He told them he became frustrated and could not control his emotions when he squeezed her in her ribs and stomach. When the baby would not stop crying, Jodejuan said he shoved a bottle and pacifier in her mouth.

At the time of his arrest, Jodejuan had multiple outstanding warrants and a long history of substance abuse-related charges. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail on five felony counts of child abuse.
