CENTERVILLE, Utah, Nov. 18, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Centerville police are searching for a suspect after they say a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building was broken into and and an elderly organist assaulted.
A news release from Centerville Police Department said Saturday at approximately 9 p.m., officials responded to investigate a break in and assault that took place in an LDS church at 270 N. 300 East.
“An elderly female was in the locked church playing the organ when she was attacked
by an unknown individual,” the news release said. “The female victim did sustain some minor injuries but is expected to recover fully.”
Centerville police Lt. Zan Robison told Gephardt Daily that the assault was not sexual in nature.
“The victim was physically assaulted by being attacked from behind while playing the organ,” Robison said. “We do not believe any weapons were involved.”
She reported that prior to this assault, there was some loud pounding on the chapel door on the northwest side of the church that went on for several minutes.
“A window on the east side of the church was broken by the suspect to gain access into the building,” the news release goes on. “Our detectives responded to process the scene for evidence and are following up on leads.”
The suspect was described as having an average build and wearing a gray hoodie.
Centerville police officials are asking anyone who witnessed anything outside the church Saturday night to call dispatch at 801-292-8441.
