RIVERDALE, Utah, July 2, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — A man has been booked into the Weber County jail on four felony charges related to a fatal stabbing and assaults near a homeless camp in Riverdale.

David Keith Wade, 49, faces initial charges of:

  • Two counts of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony
  • Two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony

At the time of this writing, only one victim had died, so charges may be amended to reflect that fact.

Riverdale police were called to the scene, near 300 W. Pacific Ave., near a Rock Mountain Power substation, at 11:51 p.m. Monday.

A female witness told officers she had seen a man stab two people with a knife, indicating Wade as the man.

“Officers located the two persons and found one was deceased with 16 stab wounds and the other was transported to McKay-Dee, where he remains in serious condition, and may be paralyzed from one or more of the eight stab wounds or slashes he received from David Wade,” says the probable cause statement, filed by an officer of the Riverdale Police Department.

“A female witness advised me that after she observed David stabbing the two males, the female stated that she was so frightened for her life, she hid behind a tree, beneath tall grass, and listened as David walked around, yelling for her.

“The female witness fled the scene, and was able to contact someone to summon police for her, the statement says.

“White searching for the female witness, David contacted another witness, who advised me that David told me he had gotten the two boys good, and wanted to show him.”

Wade “eventually attacked themale, putting him a chokehold,” the police statement says. “The (male) witness told me that he had to hit David in the head with a metal pole to stop him from choking him.”

Wade was found with head wounds consistent with being struck on the head with a metal pole,” the probable cause statement says.

“My investigation found that the two stabbing victims were camping in the area and were transcients who were riding on trains,” the police statement says.

“The male and female witness/victims were homeless and camping in the same area, and knew of David as an associate who was camping in the same area.”

A search warrant was obtained for the wooded area around the sub station for, the police statement says.

“A bloody knife was located and seized, (and) two witnesses identified the bloody knife as the one possessed by David.”

Wade is being held without bail, according to court records.
