TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH – September 24, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – It appears a drug-fueled romp during a late night joy ride ended in gunfire Wednesday evening. And police say it may have prompted one man to jump from a moving vehicle in order to keep from being shot.

A second man – the car’s driver – was critically injured in the shooting, with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs.

Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson said officers were called to the Smith’s store parking lot at 4065 Redwood Road just before 11 p.m., where a man in a car had told passing shoppers he’d been shot and needed help.

Police say the wounded driver and the man who leaped from the car had been partying with two other men they’d picked up in Salt Lake City when the shots were fired.

Both assailants managed to escape after running into a nearby neighborhood.

Unified Police, the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit, West Valley City Police and the Salt Lake City Police Department set up containment perimeters throughout the night.

Police say the two suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
