ST. GEORGE, Utah, Jan. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is dead after he tried to cross Interstate 15 following a rollover crash in St. George and was hit by another car in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol, the man was traveling south on I-15 in a Chevy Uplander at approximately 12:45 a.m.

For an unknown reason, the driver, who was the only occupant, lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled and crashed, coming to rest on all four wheels, at exit 8, the news release said.

“The male driver got out of the vehicle and started walking northbound on the shoulder,” the news release said. “At mile marker 9, he attempted to cross I-15 from the east side to the west side, and was hit by a Nissan Sentra, traveling southbound.”

The man who was walking was killed on impact. The driver of the Nissan was wearing a seatbelt and received only minor injuries.

The victim is from Mexico and has no family in the state, officials said. His name will be released when his family has been notified.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
