Mayor Becker Invites City Residents to Apply for 2015 Leadership Utah Fellowship

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – July 7, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office of Diversity & Human Rights (ODHR) and the Salt Lake City Human Rights Commission are calling for applications for the annual Leadership Utah Fellowship. Salt Lake City residents from diverse communities are invited to apply.

The 10-month program is designed to enhance participants’ community and business leadership skills through active engagement and skill-building exercises. The program provides an opportunity for individuals to get involved in an energetic local leadership network and learn how to access and utilize a multitude of community resources. Fellowship recipients will become familiar with current processes, programs and issues in the community, establish connections with current businesses and gain insight into the field of civic leadership. The aim of Leadership Utah is to educate an emerging group of future leaders.

“We’re very pleased to be able to offer this excellent learning opportunity for a future leader from our community,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker. “The fellowship provides extremely valuable exposure and experience on critical topics including health care, crime and law enforcement, education, environmental issues and much more.”

Upon completion of the program, the selected participant will be asked to complete one project to assist in the growth, development and support of Salt Lake City’s diverse community. Individuals with an interest in community activities and local affairs are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Friday, July 17, 2015.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications to be eligible for the fellowship:
Applicant must be a resident of Salt Lake City and a member of an underrepresented community
Recipient must agree to attend five Human Rights Commission monthly meetings
Recipient must commit to attend Leadership Utah scheduled activities September 2015 – July 2016
Recipient must sign a commitment pledge agreeing to use the knowledge and contacts made through Leadership Utah to affect positive change in the community
Recipient must complete one project to assist in the growth and development of Salt Lake City’s diverse community upon graduation
