SALT LAKE CITY, April 2, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Approximately 5,763 customers were without power this morning in Midvale, Taylorsville and West Jordan after a Rocky Mountain Power outage. The Rocky Mountain Power website said the zip codes 84047, 84118, 84123, 84129 and 84084 are affected. The estimated time of restoration was noon, but power was back on as of 9 a.m.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Paul Murphy said the Jordan Parkway substation was broken into, and thieves stole copper and caused damage that took out more than 5,000 customers. The company is working with law enforcement and does not have any suspects at this time. West Jordan Police Department said 80 feet of copper wire was stolen, worth hundreds of dollars and causing thousands in damages. Murphy said at 8:33 a.m., 1,947 customers had power returned to them, followed by 1,844 a few minutes later and everyone else by 9 a.m.
