According to David Ulibarri, Unified Fire Department, the house in question has been vacant for a while, as it is currently in probate. “A woman affiliated to the house found the package in the garage that she did not recognize so she called the fire department to inspect it first,” said Ulibarri. “We always take the precautions to evacuate and secure the scene for safety until we can identify what the package is.”

The homes that were evacuated were in the area of 3521 S. 1200 East.

“The bomb squad was able to determine the package was safe and there is no threat to the home or neighborhood,” said Ulibarri. “We encourage others to call us if they do not recognize something that looks suspicious, we always encourage their safety.”

Ulibarri said that he has not been told what the package was, all he knew was that it did not contain any explosive devices or material.
