SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 9, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — Twenty-four hours after hurricane force winds pummeled northern Utah and the Wasatch Front nearly 100,000 homes and businesses remain without electricity.

According to a statement posted online by Rocky Mountain Power early Wednesday morning, “Restoration efforts continue around the clock. Customers without service should prepare to be without power through the night and into Thursday.”

Another tweet posted by Rocky Mountain Power hours later at 6:06 a.m. Wednesday seemed suggest it could be even longer before service is restored.

“Crews continue with restoration efforts from the severe wind storm that took out power to 150,000 customers in Utah early Tuesday morning. At this time we do not have an estimated time of restoration. For updates text “STAT” TO 759677.”

A map of the outages shows the majority of customers without service are in Salt Lake County, where more than 70,000 are coping without electricity. Another 40,000 are without power in Davis, Weber and Box Elder counties.

There are small outages still being reported in Vernal and St. George.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information made available.
