ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, Oct. 10, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The FBI has arrested a Morgan man who allegedly assaulted a federal officer in Laguna, New Mexico.

A news release from the FBI said Brad Porter Halverson, 20, was arrested on a federal complaint charging him with assault on a federal officer and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence.

The arrest comes after he allegedly pointed a weapon at Laguna Police Department officers on Oct. 1.

“The officers confronted Halverson after he allegedly shot at a tractor-trailer on Interstate 40 and drove to Laguna Pueblo,” the news release said. “When Halverson allegedly pointed a rifle at officers, they fired at him.”

Halverson was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening gunshot wounds, the news release said. No officers were hurt.

FBI special agents took Halverson into custody at UNMH on Tuesday.

Halverson is expected to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque Wednesday. No further information will be released until after that appearance.

The New Mexico State Police and Laguna Police Department are assisting in the investigation.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
