SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 3, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist died late Friday night after his motorcycle ran into the back of an SUV on Interstate 80.

The incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. near mile marker 142, Trooper Davis Sanchez, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily.

“There was a total of three vehicles, two SUVs and a motorcycle,” Sanchez said.

There was construction in the area, and traffic slowed for that reason.

“The motorcycle was not able to stop, and crashed into the back of vehicles,” Sanchez said.

The motorcycle rider was transported to an area hospital, but died in transit.

The motorcyclist was 47, Sanchez said. His name has not been released.

The motorcycle fatality came just one day after a news release by the Utah Department of Public Safety citing the record number of motorcycle deaths on Utah’s roadways in recent weeks.

“In the wake of an alarming spike in motorcycle fatalities, the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging motorcyclists to change the way they ride on Utah roads. July 2025 is now the deadliest month on record for motorcycles on Utah roads.”

Fourteen riders died in July, according to the DPS statement, breaking an 11-year record.
