Murder charges filed in Emery County death

EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Emery County Attorney’s Office has filed a murder charge in the death of William Randy Jones.

Brandon Michael Samples, 37, has been charged in the death of Jones, 61, who died of blunt force trauma.

The body of Jones was found on May 2 of this year after a report of remains found in the Mohrland area of Emery County.

“The investigation led to Brandon Michael Samples as the primary suspect,” a statement from the Emery County Attorney’s Office says.

Samples, who is on parole on an unrelated matter, was taken into custody shortly after the incident, and placed in custody of the Utah State Prison while the investigation is ongoing.”

Samples is charged with:

  • Murder, a first-degree felony
  • Three counts of obstructing justice, a second-degree felony
  • Abuse or desecration of a human body, a third-degree felony

“This is the only information available for release at this time,” the Emery County Attorney’s statement concluded.
