WEST JORDAN, Utah, Sept. 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Formal charges have been filed and new details revealed in the case against two Murray men accused in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man killed at a West Jordan eatery.

Jonathan Hunt, 18, and Jaydan Olsen, 22, both from Murray, have been formally charged in the death of Noe Armijo-Luna, of Midvale, who was shot dead early Thursday morning while at Rancherito’s Restaurant, 7849 S. Redwood Road.

(The name Jaydan was spelled as Jayden in early police news releases.)

A third person at the scene with the suspects, a 17-year-old female, was charged with obstruction and sent to juvenile detention.

Hunt, the accused shooter, is now charged with:

  • Criminal homicide, a first-degree felony
  • Two counts of felony discharge of a firearm, shooting in the direction of a person, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of a control substance, schedule 1 or 2, a second-degree felony (meth)
  • Possession of a control substance, marijuana/spice, a class B misdemeanor
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor

Olsen is charged with:

  • Criminal homicide, a first-degree felony
  • Possession of a controlled substance, marijuana/spice, a class B misdemeanor

Hunt’s probable cause statement reveals that he and Olsen arrived at Rancheritos “after locating the victim utilizing the mobile application Snapchat for the purposes of confronting the victim over a relationship dispute.

“While the victim and Hunt’s friend were engaged in a verbal disagreement, Hunt assaulted the victim from behind by punching him in the head, and as the victim got up to confront Hunt, Hunt produced a handgun and fired it in the direction of the victim, striking the victim multiple times.”

Hunt and Olsen fled the restaurant and the area, the statement says.

“Life-saving efforts were conducted on the victim, however the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at IMC hospital.”

The statement added that Hunt is a known member of the Bloods gang, and is known to carry firearms. A red backpack searched after a warrant was obtained contained Hunt’s wallet and identification, and drug paraphernalia. The probable cause statement also characterized Hunt as a flight risk because he is homeless.

A search of Olsen’s black backpack revealed “a large quantity of green, plant substance, which tested positive for marijuana,” his probable cause statement said, adding that Olsen is also a transient, thus a flight risk.
