SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two Salt Lake City Police officers injured Wednesday morning after their vehicles collided when both were responding to a call from a third officer have been released from hospital.

One officer was admitted to the University of Utah Hospital in good condition and the other in serious condition, but the latter was later upgraded to fair. Both have now been released from the hospital.

The accident happened at about 5:45 a.m. Sgt. Brandon Shearer, SLCPD, told Gepahrdt Daily.

“There was a car prowl earlier in the evening, and someone got a description of the vehicle,” Shearer said.

“A short time later, an officer saw that vehicle in the area of 900 East and 800 South. The vehicle was apparently stolen as well, the suspect vehicle, so the officer stopped that vehicle and called for assistance, and officers were en route to assist him. They were both traveling with their lights and sirens.”

One officer was eastbound on 800 South, and the other officer was southbound on 700 East. The police cars collided in the intersection at 800 S. 700 East.

There were no other injuries or vehicles involved. The names of the officers have not been released.

Shearer said the accident investigation will be handled by Utah Highway Patrol officials.

“They will conduct any investigation into the accident to determine exactly what was the cause,” he said.
