SUMMIT COUNT, Utah, March 30, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — North Summit Fire District crews responded to multiple fires Sunday, including a controlled burn, a brush fire and a structure fire with an explosion that resulted in critical injuries.
A news release from North Summit Fire says that at about 4 p.m., crews were dispatched to an agricultural burn near River Bend Road in Wanship that had spread beyond its intended area. Firefighters worked to contain the fire.
While still engaged with the fire in Wanship crews were dispatched at approximately 5:30 p.m. to a reported brush fire on East Henefer Road in Henefer. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the fire was a controlled agricultural burn that had been reported by a passerby.
“The property owner had the situation under control, and no further action was required,” the release says.
As crews were finishing mop-up in Wanship at approximately 7:45 p.m., a reported structure fire and explosion on East 150 South in Coalville came in.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found a shed that had exploded. One individual sustained critical burn injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to a burn center in the Salt Lake Valley.”
Crews secured the scene and extinguished the fire. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
NSFD North Battalion Chief Tyler Rowser shared a statement:
“These incidents highlight how quickly conditions can change, especially with agricultural burns. We appreciate our partner agencies, Park City Fire District, South Summit Fire District, and Morgan County Fire Department, for their support and want to remind residents to take extra precautions and ensure fires are properly managed and monitored at all times.”
On Wednesday, Summit County Fire Chief Neilson will be requesting that the Summit County Council submit a formal request to the State Forester to enact fire restrictions in unincorporated Summit County beginning May 1. Similar requests have also been made to Henefer Town and Coalville City.
“North Summit Fire District encourages residents to remain vigilant and practice safe burning procedures as conditions begin to dry across the region.”
