PARK CITY, Utah, May 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man has been booked into the Summit County Jail after his neighbors in Park City say he threatened a man with knives and a rifle on Saturday morning.
According to a probable cause statement, Nathan Hale Bozung, 36, has been charged with:
- Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
- Possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony
- Possession of marijuana/spice, a class B misdemeanor
- Possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor
- Intoxication, a class C misdemeanor
- Disorderly conduct, an infraction
Court documents say that at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, a Park City patrol officer “observed two intoxicated individuals” near the 600 block of Deer Valley Drive and stopped to question them. He was told about a recent aggravated assault.
One of the witnesses said he, Bozung and several others returned from a Main Street bar they frequent, and Bozung became agitated.
The witness said shortly after arriving at the residence, “neighbor-witness observed as Bozung appeared to bully one of the individuals at the residence. The neighbor-witness did not know the identity of this individual who Bozung was bullying,” the statement says.
“According to the neighbor-witness, Bozung became increasingly hostile toward this individual. Bozung had retrieved two kitchen set type knives and had placed them against the throat of this unknown individual. Bozung did not actually inflict bodily injury to the individual.”
The witness said that later in the evening, Bozung damaged a large bay window in the building, and most or all of his guests from the bar fled.
“After the individuals fled the apartment, the neighbor-witness followed Bozung as Bozung walked down to his vehicle and retrieved rifle ammunition,” the statement says. Bozung reportedly placed ammunition in his pockets and walked back up the stairs.
“Trying to calm Bozung down, the neighbor-witness followed Bozung as he returned to the apartment where the neighbor-witness then observed an AR style rifle. The neighbor-witness stated he picked up the rifle, which aggravated Bozung. The neighbor-witness (victim) argued with Bozung over the rifle. Bozung swung at the victim.”
Bozung took control of the rifle and loaded it, “while stating to the neighbor-witness, ‘I’m going to kill you.’ The neighbor-witness retreated from Bozung,” the probable cause statement says.
The neighbor retreated, and that’s when he ran into the patrol officer.
Officers set a perimeter around the residence and tried to call Bozung by cellphone, but calls went unanswered. Officer’s contacted Bozung’s relatives, who called him and tried to calm him down, the statement says. Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, Bozung left the residence and was taken into custody.
“Sergeant Allinson interviewed Bozung,” the statement says. “Bozung made spontaneous utterances about being intoxicated last night, needing to get off the whiskey, and stated that at one point, he blacked out. Bozung refused to answer any questions and requested his attorney.”
After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered Bozung’s residence and found:
- A green, leafy, organic substance consistent with marijuana, in a quantity consistent with a user, not a distributor
- LWRC M6-SPR 5.56 MM Rifle
- Two burnt/used joints
- Rolling papers
- Two knives
- A grinder
Bozung was then booked into jail.
