OGDEN, Utah, Aug. 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — One of Ogden’s painted-horse sculptures has been vandalized.

“The horse was found tipped over,” stated a news release from Ogden City Police Department. “Two of the legs had been snapped apart and the sculpture received scratches from striking the cement ground. Investigators believe the horse was intentionally damaged.”

Ogden has more than 50 painted horses, part of an outdoor art exhibit called “Trail To Pioneer Days.” The horses are painted by local artists, businesses and community groups, and are installed in and around the downtown Ogden area annually before the July 24 holiday.

The painted horse was damaged late Tuesday night or early Wednesday. It stood near the Ogden Amphitheater, at 343 Historic 25th St. It had been decorated by the teenagers of Nurture the Creative Mind, a nonprofit group that strives to build self-esteem and character in young people through arts and self-expression.

“Well, today is a sad day,” NCM founder Amir Jackson wrote on the group’s Facebook page on Wednesday. “A pioneer horse that a group of NCM students put hours of work into along with Sign Garage was vandalized last night.”
