SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A wildfire burning 22 miles west of Blanding has burned close to 4,000 acres Monday and is 20% contained.
The Peavine Fire, first reported July 16, was caused by lightning, according to an update from the U.S. Forest Service. It is burning in Peavine Canyon in the Dark Canyon Wilderness area of the Manti-La Sal National Forest.
The fire, which was three acres when it was first reported, is now 3,904 acres.
A total of 105 personnel are currently dispatched to the fire; it’s estimated that it will be contained by Aug. 15.
