Pedestrian Hit While Walking Along I-80 On Ramp in Tooele

TOOELE, UTAH – September 30, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A man was injured after being hit by a van as he was walking along I-80 in Tooele Wednesday night.

According to Tooele County Sheriff Trooper Clint Boston, a 33-year-old transient, was walking along a sidewalk near the I-80 on ramp just before 6 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle headed westbound attempting to merge onto the freeway.

“He was hit by a female who was driving a Clean Harbors vehicle, a van with four passengers,” Boston said. “The driver was unable to avoid hitting him.”

The man was taken by a medical helicopter in critical condition, with injuries to his left side and shoulder, to University Hospital in Salt Lake. He is expected to survive.

The incident is still under investigation and it is unclear if any citations will be issued.
