Pilot confirmed dead after gyrocopter crash in Wasatch County

The pilot and lone occupant of a gyrocopter was killed Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 after the craft crashed in Wasatch County.

HEBER CITY, Utah, Dec. 16, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — First responders have confirmed that the pilot of a gyrocopter was killed when the craft crashed near Heber City.

“Wasatch Fire responded to a small helicopter crash on 189 near the Heber City Airport,” says a post issued by the Weber County Fire Department, which responded to the crash site.

“One occupant was deceased at the scene.”

The pilot, reportedly a 76-year-old man from the Park City area, was alone in the craft.

Witnesses said there were no smoke or flames after the crash. The crash reportedly occurred shortly after the pilot took off.

Traffic on Interstate 189 was slowed for multiple hours while emergency crews processed the scene.
