SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake County man has been booked into jail after two adults accused him of abusing them more than a decade earlier, when they were children attending his mother’s home daycare center.

Theodore Joseph Heaps, 35, was booked on suspicion of:

  • Two counts of rape of a child, a first-degree felony
  • Three counts of sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony

A probable cause statement filed by an officer of the Salt Lake City Police Department says a 30-year-old woman, identified in court papers as B.M., came to the station and told officers that Heaps had repeatedly raped her, beginning when she was 12, while she was in the care of his mother, who was the girl’s babysitter.

In addition, a 20-year-old man, identified as B.O., told the SLCPD that Heaps had sodomized him when the victim was 6 or 7 and also in the care of Heap’s mother, at her home in Salt Lake County.

The probable cause statement says the officer interviewed Heaps on video in late September.

“Theodore Joseph Heaps confessed to sexually abusing many children who were under the care of his mother’s daycare business …,” the statement says. “During the interview, Theodore Joseph Heaps named numerous children by name whom he molested,” some over a multi-year period.

Police took Heaps into custody on Wednesday, and posted the news on the SLCPD Twitter page:

“We’re happy to announce that Theodore Heaps, age 35, has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on his $500,000 warrant.”
