SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, April 29, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — What began as a traffic stop in Lehi ended with a Bluffdale police officer’s car upside-down after it rolled on Interstate 15 at 10600 South.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce told Gephardt Daily the incident began just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday when a Lehi officer made a traffic stop for a registration violation and possible felony warrants.

The suspect is still outstanding, he said, but Lehi police believe they know who the suspect is and they are currently looking for him.

The suspect has been identified by Lehi Police as Aaron Michael Gudmundson, 34, a Caucasian man, who is wanted on multiple felony warrants in addition to fleeing police in the Saturday pursuit.

Lehi Police Sgt. Chad Ray said Gudmundson was driving a gray, 2004 Oldsmobile Alero with Utah license plate W084TA.

Anyone who has information about the suspect is asked to call Lehi Police at 801-768-7110.

UHP Sgt. Royce said the driver fled, and as the pursuit came up over Point of the Mountain on northbound I-15 into Salt Lake County, the suspect’s vehicle left the interstate to exit at 10600 South.

“Lehi City was involved in the pursuit and Bluffdale City came to assist,” Royce said. “As they took the off-ramp, it looks like the Bluffdale City police officer lost control of the vehicle. We don’t know why. That’s still under investigation.

“(The police car) rolled off the road to the left, down the embankment and landed upside-down in the emergency lane on I-15 northbound. The officer, thankfully, sustained only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital as a precaution.”

Royce said UHP is investigating the crash and has documented the scene.

The pursuit was terminated immediately after the crash in order to render aid to the Bluffdale officer.
