SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for three female suspects who attempted to rob a Family Dollar store at gunpoint Monday night.

Lt. Gary Trost, Salt Lake City Police Department, said the three women were in the store, at 855 S. State St., at 9:08 p.m. The store closes at 9 p.m., and it isn’t known exactly when the women went in.

“They approached the counter, brandished a gun, and demanded money,” Trost told Gephardt Daily.

The female clerk was unable to access any cash at the counter, so she went to the manager’s office in the back. Before she could return to the counter, the suspects had  fled from the store in an unknown direction. Trost said the entire incident lasted roughly five minutes.

K9 officers were brought in, but were unable to track a scent because of all the foot traffic in the area.

“The best we have now,” Trost said, “is three women — the victim clerk said they’re African-American — all in their 20s.”

He added that detectives are looking at surveillance video and expect to have a better description of the suspects soon.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
