Rescue Crews and Officers Stay All Night on Mountain With Injured Hiker
FARMINGTON, UTAH – June 16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Davis County Sheriff’s Officers and medical rescue crews ended up spending the night on the mountain with a young man who feel 33 feet in Farmington Canyon.
Around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015, officers responded to a call of a man who had fallen while hiking by Miller Creek up Farmington Canyon.
The 19-year-old man was hiking with two other individuals when he fell. “Those individuals were able to call 911 where crews from Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington Fire, Davis County Search and Rescue and Life Flight responded to the area in order to search for the patient,” said Sgt. DeeAnn Servy of Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
Once rescuers were able to make contact with the three individuals, they were able reach the injured man and get him stabilized on the mountain.
Unfortunately, due to the time of day, and it being dark, the medical helicopter was unable to extricate until morning.
“Rescue crews and DCSO officer’s stayed with the patient all night while trying to co-ordinate a rescue,” said Servey. “Knowing it was possible that the patient could have suffered spinal injuries, crews felt the medical helicopter was necessary. The Department of Public Safety, Life Flight and the National Guard all worked together in coming up with the best plan to get him off the mountain,” said Servy.
Around 7 a.m., Life flight was finally able to extricate the patient where he was flown to a local IHC hospital in stable condition.
The identity of the injured individual has not been released at this time.
