SPRINGDALE, Utah, Feb. 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Road closures are in effect at Zion National Park Thursday due to heavy snow in Southern Utah.

“Road closures from last night are expected to remain all day,” said a tweet from the park. “The Zion-Mount Carmel Highway between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance and the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive north of the Zion Lodge are closed due to winter conditions. The Kolob Canyons Road is also closed.”

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that will remain in effect until 9 a.m. Friday, for southwest and south central Utah including Zion National Park, Castle Country, San Rafael Swell, Glen Canyon Recreation Area and Lake Powell.

Total snow accumulations of five to 12 inches are expected including two to six inches in the St. George area.

“Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” a tweet from the NWS said. “Areas not accustomed to snow will receive significant accumulations from this storm.”

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
