SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 6, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City firefighters were called to the scene of a commercial building fire Monday night.
Crews were dispatched to 980 South 700 West about 8:10 p.m.
According to SLCFD Battalion Chief Ryan Mellor, the fire was first reported by a lone caller who reported seeing smoke and flames on the roof of the building.
When crews arrived, they found smoke venting through a crack in the wall of the structure.
Firefighters attempted an internal attack but were unable to reach the fire which was burning in an enclosed space between the building’s ceiling and attic, Mellor explained.
Crews tried to douse the fire from the roof, when it began to collapse, along with the walls, forcing them to retreat.
Ladder trucks were deployed and directed water on the blaze from the air, Mellor said, pinning the fire to one corner of the business and effectively halting its spread.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There were no reports of injuries.
