Salt Lake City fleet employee killed in industrial accident

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 9, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — One person died Wednesday afternoon in an industrial accident at Salt Lake City’s Fleet Services building.

The death was reported at about 3:30 p.m. at the building, at 1990 W. 500 South, according to information from Salt Lake City Police officials.

The victim was killed in an accident involving a garbage truck. No additional details have been released. More information will be available after next of kin is notified of the death, officials said.

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall confirmed the victim was employed as part of the city’s fleet team.

“I’m heartbroken by this news and my thoughts are with the family and friends who lost their loved one today,” Mendenhall said in a prepared statement.

“Every person who works for Salt Lake City is part of a family. The work our city team does is because we love this city and we want to serve it, and this loss is a tragic one that impacts us all.”
