Santaquin man allegedly steals 500 pounds of donated clothing

PAYSON, Utah, Aug. 2, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — A Santaquin man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stole 500 pounds of donated clothing.

A probable cause statement from Utah County said Cory James Talbot, 47, is facing charges of:

  • Burglary, a third-degree felony
  • Theft, a class A misdemeanor

Between Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, Talbot stole property which was donated to the Agape Community Center at 755 S. 100 North in Payson, the statement said.

“Although the property was left outside in the parking lot, the donation area was roped off and the donations were bagged in preparation for being placed for sale,” the statement added. “Cory stole approximately 500 pounds of clothing, valued at approximately $3 per pound. With the value amount being approximately $1,500, the charge of theft is enhanced to a class A misdemeanor.”

Talbot was transported to Utah County Jail with his bail set at $2,500.
