UTAH COUNTY, Utah, June 22, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and rescue helicopters responded to the north side of Provo Canyon near the base of Mount Timpanogos early Sunday night after a call came to dispatch from a man who said he was paragliding alone when he crashed.

The call came in at about 6 p.m., Sgt. Raymond Ormond, Utah County Sheriff’s Office, told Gephardt Daily.

Search and rescue teams used his cell phone to try to get a better location, and both Life Flight and DPS helicopters were called in to assist in the operation.

Around 8:30 p.m. it was reported that searchers had spotted the man, but there’s been no word on the rescue attempt since then.

The victim definitely is injured, Ormond said, “so we’re just working on now confirming that we do have a location on him, and being able to extract him off the mountain.”

Ormond said the man confirmed he was suspended, as if in a tree, and said he was several feet off the ground. Because the man is alone, “it’s kind of hard to get good confirmation on everything that’s happening,” Ormond said.

Ormond said, “it’s going to be the best to use a hoist from a helicopter, and from there, they’ll determine if they can transfer them to a ground ambulance or if they’ve got to transfer them to Life Flight to have them fly to the hospital. That will be be determined once we get them off the mountain.”

As of late Sunday night, no other details were available.

Gephardt Daily will have additional details as soon as they can be confirmed.
