Slow-moving vehicle in WVC gets high-centered on barrier after hitting garbage cans, fences, parked cars

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah. Jan. 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police officers are trained to deal with the type of chase we usually read about — a high-speed one.

But officers in West Valley City handled a pursuit of a different kind overnight — one in which speeds only went between 5 and 20 mph.

In fact, according to a prepared statement from WVC Police Department, the low-speed chase only came to an end when the vehicle became high-centered on a concrete barrier, and officers were able to take the driver into custody.

The news release said the incident started at 12:35 a.m. in the area of 6200 S. 5600 West, and ended in the area of 6200 S. 6300 West.

Several citizens called in to report a reckless driver who was traveling in oncoming lanes and driving on curbs. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield. Though the vehicle was traveling slowly, the driver hit garbage cans, fences and parked vehicles.

The female driver was safely taken into custody after the vehicle became high-centered. She had taken an undetermined amount of medication, and was taken to the hospital.

Charges against her will be screened.
