SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, April 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in South Salt Lake are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital early Saturday morning.

Gary Keller, public information officer for the South Salt Lake Police Department, said dispatchers received a call of shots fired at 3 a.m. in the area of 3728 S. 700 East.

Dispatchers were told there was a group of people outside the residence yelling and arguing with each other just prior to the shooting.

When officers arrived the individuals involved in the fighting had already left. Officers discovered blood at the scene and entered the residence in search of victims. In the home’s basement, they found an adult male, who refused to cooperate with officers, but was eventually taken into custody. The man did not have any injuries.

After sending out a request to area hospitals to be on the lookout for a patient with a gunshot wound, officers received a call from a hospital near the location of the shooting indicating that a 29-year-old man had just come in with a gunshot to his upper body.

Further investigation suggests the man was brought to the hospital by two other individuals who had been at the scene of the fight. His injuries are not considered life-threating.

Few details about the shooting are known, and police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call South Salt Lake police at 801-840-4000.
