SANTAQUIN, Utah, June 16, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — It’s not clear what sparked a vegetation fire in Santaquin Tuesday morning.

What is clear is that the stakes were high, with a dozen or more townhomes built just up the hill from a field that caught fire.

“Just before 10 a.m. crews were called to a small vegetation fire north west of the Kars gas station at the south end of town,” says a Santaquin City Fire & EMS news release issued Tuesday.

“Additional personnel and equipment from Rocky Ridge Fire Department and BLM responded to assist. The fire was contained and knock-down quickly and no structures were threatened.

“The cause of this fire is unknown, but with fire conditions so volatile it could have been something as simple as a spark from a trailer chain or a flipped cigarette butt,” the news release says.

“Please be fire aware in all your outdoor activities.”
