TOOELE, Utah, Feb. 5, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Crime scene investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Public Safety worked into the night Wednesday, gathering evidence in connection with a Tooele City Police officer-involved shooting that killed a man earlier in the day.
The shooting happened about 11:20 a.m. near 1100 North, just east of Main Street, where Tooele City PD officers were searching for an alleged gunman wanted in a late Tuesday-night shooting that wounded another man 12 hours earlier at the Quality Quik Stop, located at 188 N. Broadway Ave.
According to Tooele City PD, the man who was killed had “presented” a firearm, prompting officers to fire.

Tooele City PD had issued a press release early Wednesday identifying a 43-year-old person of interest in the Quality Quik Stop shooting. A police spokesman told Gephardt Daily he could not confirm whether the man shot by police was that person of interest, but confirmed “the individual was a male in his 40s.”
Sgt. Colbey Bentley, TCPD, said the name of the deceased was being withheld pending approval by the SBI and DPS. He expected the name would be released within a few days.
The identity and condition of the man who suffered multiple gunshots at the Quality Quik Stop and was transported to a hospital also was withheld.

Bentley said he could not confirm how many officers fired, but those who did would be put on administrative leave in keeping with Officer-Involved Critical Incident protocols.
