SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a suspect in the early Monday morning stabbing death of 16-year-old Marcelino Johnson.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer told Gephardt Daily officers located Enrique Deloza, 28, late Tuesday afternoon in the area of 1050 S. Main St.

Deloza was taken into custody without incident. Shearer said detectives were able to identify Deloza from surveillance video and witness accounts.

Police are still looking for a person of interest who is believed to have been with Deloza when the brutal attack took place.

The report of a stabbing on Kensington Avenue between State and Major streets was called in at about 1:12 a.m. Monday.

“One group of at least four people, including the victim and two females, were on Kensington. It started verbally, and from a distance,” SLCPD Lt. Gary Trost told Gephardt Daily a short while after the incident.

The verbal altercation continued for a few blocks until it became physical and Johnson was stabbed in the lower torso. He was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition, but died during surgery.

Anyone who has any information about the “person of interest” who was with Deloza that night is urged to contact Salt Lake City Police at (801) 799-3000.
