Suspect faces felony charges after allegedly taking gun, ammo at Heber City Sportsman’s Warehouse

HEBER CITY, Utah, July 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Heber City Police officers responded to a report of a man with a gun Friday at Sportsman’s Warehouse.

A manager and customers took the unloaded gun from the man’s hands and detained him until police arrived, according to a news release from Heber City Police Department on Facebook.

“Upon investigation, the male had taken a box of ammunition and placed it in his pockets,” the Facebook post said. “The male had also taken a handgun that he was looking at, and placed it in his pocket.”

Police say as the man turned to leave, he started trying to load the gun, but was prevented from doing so by the manager and customers.

The man, identified as Jose Sosa, was arrested and now faces the following charges:

  • Aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony
  • Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a second-degree felony
  • Disorderly conduct
