WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 1, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Officers are searching for two suspects who carjacked a vehicle then collided with a car and a residence in West Valley City Wednesday afternoon.

West Valley City Police Department Lt. Julie Jorgensen told Gephardt Daily said that at approximately 1 p.m., officials got a call of an injury accident in the area of 3800 S. Cheryl Street.

“As we were arriving we were informed that the two occupants of the silver Ford had fled on foot into the neighborhood nearby,” Jorgensen said. “Once officers arrived they discovered that the vehicle had just been stolen from a parking lot across the street.”

The collision occurred as the suspects were fleeing in the stolen vehicle they had just carjacked from a woman that was sitting inside it at the time. They then collided with a vehicle that was traveling on 3800 South and was unaware what happened. The collision occurred just moments after the vehicle was carjacked.

The stolen vehicle also collided with a residence, which caused damage to the porch. Building inspectors will assess the damage, Jorgensen said. There were individuals in the home but none of them were injured.

One of the people in the vehicle that was hit sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

The woman that was the victim of the carjacking was not injured.

“She said that they opened her car door while she was sitting in it, ordered her out, and ordered her to give them the keys,” Jorgensen said. “She cooperated with that so they got into her vehicle and drove away; and then she started filming them with her phone when they left, which is helpful for gathering suspect information.”

The suspects are still outstanding and it is not clear if they were injured in the collision.

No weapons were seen or brandished, Jorgensen said.

The stolen vehicle will be processed for evidence in an attempt to locate the suspects. Officers are still in the area searching for the two men and will be canvassing for any surveillance video that may have captured the incident.

Anyone that has information on the incident is asked to contact WVCPD at 801-840-4000.
