SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly beat a woman and tried to get her to commit suicide.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake City said Zack Rangley Bailey is facing two charges of third-degree felony aggravated assault.

The statement said that Friday at approximately 6 p.m., the A/P (accused person), later identified as Bailey, became involved in a verbal argument with the woman at a home in Taylorsville.

“During the argument, the victim attempted to walk out of the bedroom, but A/P shut the door and prevented her from leaving,” the statement said. “He then pushed her down on the bed. A/P then grabbed the victim around her head and neck and attempted to break her neck. A/P then wrapped both his hands around her neck and began to strangle her.”

The suspect squeezed the victim’s neck, cutting off her air supply, the statement said. The victim did not lose consciousness, but said she believed she was going to. She also believed that Bailey was going to kill her, the probable cause statement said.

Bailey then let go of her neck then began punching her face, the statement said. He then stomped or jumped on her stomach, then stepped back and began challenging her to a fist fight, the statement said.

“When she tried to sit up, A/P again wrapped both of his hands around her neck and started to strangle her,” the statement said. “A/P let go and grabbed a razor blade. He gave the razor blade to the victim and told her to kill herself, and he wanted her to slit her throat.”

She used the razor blade to cut her upper left arm, the statement said. Bailey continued to tell her to kill herself and he wanted her to slit her throat, it says. When she refused, he went to sleep.

The statement said the victim’s right eye was swollen and severely bruised. She had large, distinct red marks around her neck, red marks around her left ear, and a laceration on her upper left arm.

Bailey was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $40,000.
