COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, May 14, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Cottonwood Heights man who barricaded himself in a home Sunday was taken into custody after negotiations failed, and officers from the Cottonwood Heights Police Department fired tear gas into the residence.

The police department responded to the residence just after 11 a.m. Sunday after a call came to dispatch reporting a verbal domestic fight.

When officers arrived at home, at 2537 E. Newtopia Circle, all occupants left the residence except for the man, who barricaded himself inside the residence and reportedly threatened to kill himself.

A SWAT team attempted to negotiate with the barricaded man for serveral hours. When that failed, officers fired tear gas into the residence. The man left the home immediately and surrendered to police.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The identity of the man in police custody has not been released.
