SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 10, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people are in the hospital Saturday night — two in critical condition — after a collision at a traffic light near 500 S. Redwood Road.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Robin Heiden said a Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on Redwood, intending to go straight on the green light at about 500 South.

“That’s when a passenger vehicle turned left to go westbound in front of the truck,” Heiden said.

Three people in the passenger vehicle were transported to the hospital — two in critical condition and one in serious condition. At least one individual had to be extricated from the vehicle.

“We’re waiting for updates from the hospital,” Heiden said. “When there’s an extrication, you know the injuries are serious.”

She said the person in the truck was checked out at the scene and had only very minor injuries.

Heiden wasn’t sure if the weather played a part in the accident.

“It looked like one person had the green light and the other person turned in front of him,” she said. But the weather will be part of the investigation.

“Anytime you have serious injuries, the investigation looks at everything,” she said. “It is raining pretty hard out here, and that intersection isn’t really well lit. But it was a traffic light, so one of them had a green light.”

Heiden said there had been quite a few traffic accidents Saturday night, and it’s possible that poor visibility due to the weather was a factor in many of those.
