WEST JORDAN, Utah, April 5, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — West Jordan police responded to Cougar Park Sunday morning after a call came to dispatch regarding gunfire in the area.

The call came in just before 6 a.m., and officers went to 6600 South 4800 West.

“We had several callers just reporting numerous gunshots in the area here, from the Cougar Park,” Sgt. Brian Schaaf, WJPD, told Gephardt Daily. “Then we had reports that one person was injured.”

Investigators found casings on scene, Schaaf said.

“So what we’re getting here is there was an argument of some sort here at the parking lot between a group of people. At some point, somebody produced a gun, and some shots were fired, and people kind of fled the scene from there.

“We had two that were transported to the hospital for what I was told were non life-threatening injuries, and we have a few folks that investigators are going to work with to hopefully get some more information.”

Those involved are believed to be 18 or older, Schaaf said. It is not yet known if the incident was gang related.

Multiple agencies responded to assist, Schaaf said, adding “it’s pretty common that we help each other out.”

One agency brought a drone to help locate people, and police made contact with a few people they could question “to see what they can shed some light on.”

Gephardt Daily will share additional information as facts are confirmed.
