IRON COUNTY, Utah, April 7 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The Choke Cherry Fire near the Hamlin Valley in Iron County is now 25% contained.

“Resources are responding to the #ChokeCherryFire estimated at 500 acres in Iron County,” said a tweet from Utah Fire Info at 5 p.m. Monday. “The smoke column is visible from Cedar City.”

A follow-up tweet Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. said: “The #ChokeCherryFire is 25% contained. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by a legally permitted burn that was not properly extinguished; it was not cold to the touch. Wind reignited the fire which quickly spread to the drought stressed vegetation nearby.”

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
