BEAVER COUNTY, Jan. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have released the name of a woman whose car was pushed off Interstate 15 and down a 100-foot embankment on Thursday night.

The victim, who died at the scene, was Jaime Demille, age 41, from Cedar City.

In addition, the Utah Department of Public safety revealed that the semi that drifted into DeMille’s lane and sent them both down the incline was carrying pigs, many of which died in the accident.

The semi driver and his passenger were transported to a local hospital for injuries that were not life threatening, the DPS update says.

The accident happened about 13 miles north of the city of Beaver, a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety says.

“At about 21:25 hours, a semi was traveling southbound on I-15 near milepost 125.8,” it says. “The semi drifted off the left shoulder for an unknown reason. Troopers are investigating an illness/fatigue as a contributor.

“The semi traveled through the median, across northbound lanes and struck a Kia Optima, which was traveling northbound in the number two lane. The Kia Optima and the semi continued off the right shoulder of the northbound lanes. The Kia Optima came to rest at the bottom of about a 100 foot embankment.

“The Kia was occupied by only the female driver. She sustained fatal injuries on impact with the semi.”

On Friday afternoon, the DPS released information about the pigs.

“There were approximately 160 pigs on board the semi’s trailer,” the statement says. “Many were severely injured or killed during the collision and subsequent roll-over. A few pigs came away unscathed.”
