PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Dec. 4, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say Thursday’s lockdown of Pleasant Grove High School was prompted by a student hoax.

According to a statement by the Pleasant Grove Police Department, the lockdown began around 2 p.m. when a student told administrators he saw an unknown male inside the school wearing a trench coat and carrying a firearm.

A school resource officer made the decision to initiate the lockdown and for the next three hours students sheltered in classrooms while police conducted a room-by-room search of the facility.

The search efforts were still ongoing when the student who made the report admitted to officers he had fabricated the story. The lockdown was called off immediately.

The student who made up the story has been identified as a 15-year-old male. He was taken into custody and booked on felony charges of making a false police report and terroristic threats.
