FARR WEST, Utah, Aug. 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a Mantua man killed Tuesday afternoon when the car he was driving was involved in a crash with a semi truck in Farr West.

The deceased has been identified as Trent Michael Thinnes, 33, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is still ongoing and no citations or charges have been filed at this time, officials said.

The crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. in the area of 3700 North and 2000 West, according to an initial news release.

Responding deputies found that a construction semi and two other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The initial investigation indicated that the semi was southbound on 2000 West, when it drifted into the northbound lane near 3700 North, the news release states.

Heading into oncoming traffic, the semi struck a white passenger carĀ occupied by a 71-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman. Both were transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

The out-of-control semi then crashed into a brown sedan driven by Thinnes. He was the car’s only occupant, the release says.

That impact forced the semi and the sedan off the road, with the semi pinning the car against a large metal fence.

Thinnes was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators believe the semi was traveling at the posted 55-mph speed limit; however, the investigation is still underway. It has not yet been determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more details are made available.

  1. 80 miles an hour speed limit is ridiculous. You know vehicles are going faster than the posted speed limit when they pull up on your rear end to MOVE!!!! How do you co troll a vehicle going that fast!?!? Then there’s those entering the freeway here in Utah who think those on tbe freeway shpuld YOELD to them when they are entering the freeway. Then they speed up to get in front of you and hope you crash trying to avoid them. People in this state are terrible drivers!!!!
