MESA, Ariz., Jan. 10, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Gerald Salcido, a deputy with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, who was arrested Friday on multiple child sex abuse-related charges out of Maricopa County, Arizona, was being sought in connection with a 1995 child molestation case, according to a news release from Mesa, Arizona, police.

The UCSO had been contacted by officials in Maricopa County on Friday in regard to a felony warrant for Salcido, 63.

He was arrested in Orem on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and was taken into custody with extradition charges pending.

Salcido had been employed as an officer with the Mesa Police Department from 1980 to 1986, when he resigned to start a new business, according to the Mesa Police news release.

“The original 1995 case went cold when detectives did not have enough evidence to move forward with the molestation charges,” the news release says.

“Two juvenile victims had reported being molested by Salcido ten years prior in Mesa,” the release continues. “In September 2017, a new witness came forward causing the case to be re-opened. With the new information, Mesa Police Detectives conducted follow-up interviews in Utah.”

The follow-up provided detectives with pertinent information that led them to
submit criminal charges of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, a class 2 felony, to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Subsequently, the warrant for his arrest was issued.

“This is a great example of someone coming forward with new information leading to the arrest of a dangerous sexual predator many years later,” the Mesa PD news release says. “This shows that decades after a crime, one piece of information can solve a case.”
